"We promised ourselves that we would return and twelve months down the line here we are. You make this holiday so so special; Margaret with your fantastic cooking and Simon with your interaction with the children when feeding the animals. We cannot thank you both enough and we will definitely be back."

for children

We love children here at Birchill Farm Cottages, which is just as well as we have five of our own! As parents ourselves, we know that relaxed, happy children are the key to a successful family holiday.

At Birchill Farm Cottages we aim to provide a safe, peaceful environment where families can have fun.

Our grounds are private and secluded, one fifth of a mile from a road and a wonderful place for children to make new friends.

and if you feel like driving...

There's a swimming pool just ten minutes drive away and many different activities in the local area - sailing, horse riding and quad biking to name but a few - there's plenty to keep older children busy!

A visit to Rosemoor Garden is a must. Only ten minutes away and a fabulous day out for parents and children alike. The nature trail will keep children amused for hours and the new play area is lots of fun. The restaurant serves lunches with children's lunch boxes available and a very tempting selection of cakes

Another popular day out is a visit to one of the National Trust properties nearby. Arlington Court, Castle Drogo and Knightshayes Court are all about an hour's drive away. Children are very welcome and there are quizzes for them to do whilst looking around the house. Our children like Arlington Court best because you can have a horse drawn carriage ride around the grounds!

For those families who enjoy walking Lydford Gorge on the edge of Dartmoor is great fun but you will need to hold on to younger family members near the gorge and it's not suitable for pushchairs

Cyclists will thoroughly enjoy the Tarka Trail. Bring your own bikes or hire them locally. It's possible to access the Tarka Trail from Birchill Cottages without the need to take your car - please ask us for the best route

And finally beach lovers will not be disappointed. Whether you prefer wide stretches of sandy beach for surfing and sandcastle building or smaller coves with rockpooling opportunities, you will find them here in North Devon.
